CUPERTINO, California, October 16, 2025: Apple Inc. has introduced a refreshed 14-inch MacBook Pro featuring its new M5 chip, delivering a marked upgrade in artificial intelligence performance, graphics capability, and power efficiency. The device maintains the familiar hardware design but incorporates significant internal enhancements aimed at accelerating professional and AI-intensive workloads.

The M5 chip, built on Apple’s third-generation 3-nanometer process, integrates a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU with Neural Accelerators embedded in each GPU core. Apple states the new chip delivers up to 3.5 times the AI performance and up to 1.6 times the graphics performance of the previous M4 processor. The M5 also boosts unified memory bandwidth to 153 gigabytes per second and includes a 16-core Neural Engine to enhance AI operations performed directly on the device.

The updated 14-inch MacBook Pro supports up to 24 hours of battery life, the longest ever offered in a Mac, and introduces faster solid-state drive (SSD) performance. Users can now configure storage up to 4 terabytes, with SSD read and write speeds reportedly up to twice as fast as the previous generation. These performance gains are targeted at professionals working with large media files, codebases, and machine learning models.

Apple has retained the MacBook Pro’s core hardware features, including the Liquid Retina XDR display with a nano-texture glass option, a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera, a six-speaker audio system, and a broad range of connectivity options such as Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, and MagSafe 3. The notebook supports driving up to two external high-resolution displays and includes a 96-watt USB-C power adapter capable of fast charging up to 50 percent in 30 minutes.

New M5 processor delivers major AI and graphics boost

The device runs macOS Tahoe, Apple’s latest desktop operating system, which introduces enhancements to Spotlight search, Control Center customization, and deeper integration of Apple Intelligence capabilities. These features include live translation in supported apps and intelligent automation through Shortcuts.

The operating system also features an updated visual design with a transparent menu bar and customizable app icons and folders. According to Apple, performance comparisons show the M5 chip achieving up to 7.7 times faster AI video enhancement in Topaz Video, 6.8 times faster 3D rendering in Blender, and 3.2 times higher frame rates in games compared to the 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 chip.

When compiling code in Xcode, the new model performs up to 2.1 times faster than the M1-based equivalent. The new 14-inch MacBook Pro remains priced at $1,599 in the United States and $1,499 for education customers. It is available in space black and silver finishes, and can be pre-ordered beginning today from Apple’s online store and Apple Store app in more than 30 countries and regions.

New model supports Apple’s sustainability goals

Retail availability is scheduled to begin October 22. Apple highlighted environmental improvements in the new model, noting that the laptop is made with 45 percent recycled materials by weight. This includes 100 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure, rare earth elements in all magnets, and cobalt in the battery.

The MacBook Pro is manufactured using 55 percent renewable electricity across the supply chain and ships in fully fiber-based packaging. The company’s launch of the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 chip follows its broader efforts to equip more of its product line with advanced silicon optimized for AI and high-efficiency computing.

Additional updates to iPad Pro and Apple Vision Pro devices with the same chip architecture were announced on the same day. The MacBook Pro with M5 supports Apple Intelligence in beta, available in multiple languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese (simplified), Japanese, and Korean. Some features may vary by region or language. – By Content Syndication Services.
